Laura, true crime hits a little too close to home in my case for me to enjoy reading it, but this interview handled the hard parts of writing true crime deftly and with the utmost respect for survivors and those who care for them as well as readers. Well done!

True crime can be difficult for me to read/listen/enjoy, too. All too often, the true crime podcasters aren't as sensitive as Shoney is, and seem to revel in details that revictimize the victim or actually lead the audience into believing the wrong thing or turn the perpetrators into rock star-level celebrities. I usually stick to podcasts by people who are forensics experts or in law enforcement, who have seen the horrors upclose and are unlikely to sensationalize the cases, and whose knowledge I can use as research for my own writing. I avoid most of what is categorized as "true crime", though.

Shoney was a terrific person to interview and answered my questions with a good deal of thought. I also got ideas for my questions from a reporter/blogger-resource site that i read years ago and tweeked the questions to suit the interview. I was also fortunate that Shoney had a lot of photos on her site that I could use, because I definitely wanted to keep the focus on these victims. I hope that answers can be found for these folks and their loved ones. They deserve justice.
